The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has openings for permanent part-time Bartenders at the Dresden Arena in the Parks, Fleet and Facilities division.

 Job description:

The Bartender ensures the renters are compliant with the requirements of the AGCO, facility rental agreement, Fire Code, and monitors alcohol consumption

Essential responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Serves alcohol in accordance to the Smart Serve responsibility guidelines and municipal alcohol risk management policy
  • Provides good customer service to a wide range of customers and users
  • Responsible for opening and closing of the facility
  • Maintains and restocks supplies in the washroom facilities and ensures all the garbage has been removed from the facility and deposited in the correct location at the end of the rental
  • Ensures alcohol is removed from the facility at the end of the night
  • Responsible to record and report any operational concerns, vandalism, incidents and/or injuries
  • Responsible for the security of the building throughout the duration of the event
  • Represents the Municipality in a professional, courteous and respectful manner when dealing with the public
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Essential qualifications:

  • Because of the responsibilities of this position, applicants must be over 18 years of age to serve
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent education (e.g. GED certificate)
  • Experience bartending in a business environment preferred, including:
    • Serving alcohol in accordance to smart serve and requirement of the Alcohol and Gaming Commissions of Ontario
    • Maintaining fire code requirements
    • Monitoring alcohol consumption
    • Maintaining security
  • Knowledge of the safe use of maintenance equipment and cleaning products
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in dealing with members of the public and colleagues
  • All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required

Other qualifications:

  • Previous cash handling experience an asset

Certifications, memberships, licenses:

  • Smart Serve Certificate or obtain Smart Serve Certificate within one week of employment
  • Standard First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment)

Work environment/hours of work:

  • This position works indoors
  • This position works weekday, afternoon, evening and weekend hours, as well as occasional weekends and on-call weekend hours

Driver’s license/vehicle requirements:

Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

Background check requirements:

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: Police Criminal Record Check, education/certification verification, and employment reference check.

  • Sitting: infrequent sitting in a chair; occasional sitting on a stool (sitting on stool for breaks and when not busy)
  • Lifting: frequent reading lifting floor to waist (up to 11.4 kgs or 25 lbs) (full beer cases)
  • Standing: frequent standing inside (waiting on customers at the bar)
  • Hands: frequent fine finger dexterity (movement), gripping; constant mousing (POS system use of fingers to punch in sales)
  • Foot action: constant two foot action (on two feet most of the shift)
  • Bending: infrequent kneeling, crouching, squatting; occasional stooping, twisting (picking up beer cases from the floor to stock cooler)
  • Walking: occasional balancing (walking to beer storage area to get beer)
  • Sitting: infrequent sitting in a chair; occasional sitting on a stool (sitting on stool for breaks and when not busy)
  • Reaching: infrequent reaching above shoulder; occasional reaching below shoulder, forward, handling (reaching to get beer out of cooler)
  • Lifting: infrequent lifting at shoulder, above shoulder, overhead, pushing at or above shoulder, pulling at or above shoulder, pulling below shoulder; occasional lifting waist to shoulder, carrying, transferring, pushing below shoulder (up to 11.4 kgs or 25 lbs) (full beer cases)

Benefits 

These permanent part-time positions will receive an hourly wage of 16.55 to 17.00 per hour and will receive vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
