The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Project Coordinator, Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) Program in the Community Attraction and Promotion division. This temporary full-time opportunity is for a period up to March 2026.

 Job description

The Coordinator, LIP works as part of the municipal Community Attraction and Promotion team to actively engage the community and key stakeholders on issues related to immigration and immigrant settlement. The Local Immigration Partnership Project is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through a Contribution Agreement with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Essential responsibilities

  • Complete activities related to the objectives of the project which include:
    • Enhanced awareness of the LIP in Chatham-Kent
    • Engagement of a diversity of members involved in the settlement and integration of immigrants
    • Increased capacity to support the integration of immigrants
  • Foster relationship building between the CK LIP Partnership Council, stakeholders and other organizations to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) & Truth and Reconciliation
  • Liaise with the Community Attraction and Promotion division, IRCC, CK LIP Partnership Council and external settlement partners on project matters
  • Coordinate LIP Partnership Council and stakeholder meetings, developing action plans for the project, tracking action plan activities and outcomes, and coordinating and liaising with project stakeholders as needed
  • Assist non-settlement service providers and the community in developing a greater understanding of immigrant needs and services
  • Represent CK LIP at community meetings as required
  • Present the work of the CK LIP through presentations to community groups and professional organizations
  • Responsible for adhering to established budget and reporting requirements, utilizing municipal software programs and following municipal policies and procedures while adhering to the Contribution Agreement with the project’s funder
  • Collaborate on the development of a communication plan for dissemination of LIP information to the community including the creation of media releases, reports, promotional activities and materials, web pages and social media
  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Act as an ambassador for Chatham-Kent
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree (preferably in a social science, public affairs, project management, or economics related program), with two (2) to four (4) years of related experience
  • Experience working with immigration strategies and/or attraction/retention strategies
  • Experience in municipal or broader public, private or voluntary sector
  • Progressive project management experience
  • Experience working with various stakeholders, community groups and levels of government
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards (or other similar financial program)
  • Knowledge of current issues facing local government in Ontario and Canada, particularly as they relate to the portfolio
  • Excellent research, analysis, and benchmarking skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience with social media platforms
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software program)

Work environment/hours of work

  • This position works mostly indoors
  • This position works weekday hours, with occasional evening and weekend hours

Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements

Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

Background check requirements

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: Police Criminal Record Check, education/certification verification, and employment reference check.

Essential physical and/or safety requirements

  • Sitting: constant sitting in a chair (desk based position, with some travel to meetings)
  • Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (operating a computer, mouse, calculator, cellphone)

Benefits 

This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage of $33.255 to $37.608 and will receive 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes group benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay. Where a permanent employee is receiving benefits and is the successful candidate for a temporary vacancy, benefits will remain as per the policy manual.
